LAPIS Collection

Updated: Oct 20, 2021

On Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, the high-end brand SIMONE PEDRETTI unveiled its first furniture collection. The presentation event was held at the Atelier of the artist Matteo Cavaioni, located in the marvelous context of Valpolicella and with the presence of a select audience of guests sipping a glass of prosecco Bisol.

LAPIS (from the Latin <stone>) is a series of unique and unrepeatable objects of their kind, capable of leaving all the guests speechless. Designed by the architect and designer Luca Sartori, co-founder of the Italian studio SUPERLUNA, the collection is inspired by the memories, objects, and traditions of life in the Italian north region Trentino.

The entire collection was created by enhancing one of the rarest and most unknown stones in the world: petrified wood. Dated over thirty million years, this particular wood has been subject to extremely rare circumstances that have transformed it into stone. After long and meticulous research, SIMONE PEDRETTI has been able to find this material only in the Indonesian tropical forests. Due to the complexity and challenges of working with petrified wood, the research and development to bring the LAPIS collection to life lasted almost two years.

Luca Sartori's original idea was to give a new life to the objects found in the Trentino tradition. He revisited them in a contemporary key, trying to make the most of petrified wood, with the help of the mastery of some of the best Italian artisans with whom the company collaborates.

Among the objects presented are the CIOCÁT, the TRIGA, and the SFÓIA. CIOCÁT, from the dialect of Trentino <wood trunks>, is a fantastic set of 3 tables, including a coffee table, a bedside table, and a stool. TRIGA, from the dialect of Trentino <to rest>, is composed of two metal cylinders and a petrified wood slab. Finally, the modular bookshelf SFÓIA, whose design was inspired by the trunk’s part immediately after the bark (the book).

The union between passion and commitment gave life to the first collection by a new high-end Italian brand able to twist the idea of creation through details and different shades.

A special thank goes to all those who attended the presentation of the collection. We will be delighted to see you again soon.
